LEONARDO Mixed Use Building
Leonardo Residence has a big story about the aspects of New in Old. The Mixed-Use building is placed in the historical heart of Trnava, the city known as “Little Rome”. Leonardo project started a new revolution, discussions and confrontation about how the contemporary architecture inside the historical environment should looks like.
Architect had to fight to keep a progresive proposal alive. The conservationists’ requirements relied on the Heritage Conservation Principles, which promoted the usage of ‘traditional’ shapes, materials like a plaster facades in pastel color, red roof tiles, following rather the imitation of historical styles. These 20-years promoted conservative trend in conservation in Slovakia, which so tightly defines the aspect of new buildings, has got a tendency of directing it to the outdated trivial perception without low architectural quality and true authentic aspects. It supports historicist rather than progressive and authentic architecture.
Leonardo residence is surrounded by a palatial university, Archiepiscopal Office, Baroque St. John the Baptist Cathedral, Cathedral of St. Nicolas, city tower, and other valuable historical listed buildings.
The building offers a mix of complementary functions on one place like apartments, offices, shops and parking places.
