PIAZZA DEI TRE RE 2016
Winner of PAT-Premio Architettura Toscana 2017, the urban regeneration project of Piazza dei Tre Re in Florence designed by Architect Chiara Fanigliulo for Serre Torrigiani, represents a first step toward the requalification of the area. The project has reinvented the square as a secret garden, a miniature urban paradise, where visitors can plunge into a relaxing experience with a dreamlike quality.
This urban garden built in the heart of Florence in summer 2016 wants to combact degradation: a place ignored and disfigured transformed into a green oasis where people can find an open-air cafè, relaxation and cultural events.
Placed between Piazza della Repubblica and Via Calzaiuoli in Florence, Piazza dei Tre Re is one of the oldest medieval squares in Florence. In the XVI century, the Magistratura dell'Onestà was situated here. It was also the heart of the ancient Jewish Ghetto. Today, after years of decay, the square is now the first open urban garden in the heart of Florence, full of people, both citizens and tourists.
A "Green Wall", an innovative vertical wall of vegetation, equipped with display cases and lighting, is combined with a "garden platform" for cultural activities and a street food.
