Habeli Outdoor Learning Center (HOLC) Map

Nestled on the north-east facing slope of a hill, Habeli Outdoor Learning Center directly faces the hill-town of Kakani and overlooks the Kathmandu valley. Views open up to the stunning Himalayan mountain ranges towards the north.

The vision of Habeli Outdoor Learning Center is to foreground the relevance of the rich natural, cultural and local resources by integrating it into contemporary school curriculum. Learning becomes more contextual, relevant and responsive.

For such a learning concept, together with the client the initial approach was to map the natural richness of the site as well as the possibilities that the site holds for outdoor learning activities. A comprehensive study on site was made which led to the development of planning natural layer (trees, plants, herbs, shrubs, streams, big rocks, flora and fauna), network layer (vehicular, roads, paths, trails) and the intervention layer (for different learning activities and nature experience). All of these layers were developed into a comprehensive map.
